Meet our Founders

In 2006, Bill Hrncir survived a stroke that forever changed the course of his life. While running along the trails in Austin, TX, he collapsed from an ischemic attack that deprived his brain of oxygen... every passing second was critical to his survival. Another runner on the trail witnessed the event, called 911, and miraculously saved his life.

Bill and Deedee Hrncir co-founded the Laredo Stroke Support Group just six years after experiencing firsthand the challenges of stroke recovery and the lack of local resources. What began with just a handful of people at monthly meetings has grown into a thriving tight-knit community serving dozens of survivors and caregivers each week through free activities, therapy sessions, and support programs. Our program has registered over 200 stroke survivors not only from Laredo, but also from nearby towns and across the border.
Bill’s personal journey of resilience after his stroke, paired with Deedee’s dedication to research and caregiving, inspired them to build a space of hope, encouragement, and healing for others. Their vision continues to guide LSSG as we provide not only rehabilitation, but also connection, creativity, and emotional support for survivors and their families. Read more about Bill and Deedee's deeply moving story and creation of the Laredo Stroke Support Group in the Laredo Morning Times.
